More detail on this person: Michael Roden Leddy, age 76, of Port Orange, Florida died peacefully while surrounded by his family on June 16, 2021 following a brief battle with cancer. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1945, the third child of Michael Leddy and Ruth Ballinger Leddy, his stories of childhood included fierce Catholic school nuns, making money with his trusty shoe shine box, and side-splitting hijinks. Unsurprisingly to all who knew him, he was voted the funniest man in his graduating class at Roxborough High. Drafted into service shortly after high school graduation, he entered the United States Army where his keen intellect propelled him through a swift advancement up the ranks. He was sent to flight school and Officer Candidate School before deployment to Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He would soon find himself flying new Cobra gunships in close support of troops on the ground. His tour came at the peak of the conflict and gave rise to hair-raising stories that he was lucky enough to survive and tell. Mike also found time to engage in pranks that kept his brothers in arms laughing, including one where he claimed that the landing light on his chopper was a new super weapon called "phaser." The guys who had seen the new tv show Star Trek got the joke when his command asked why they were getting calls asking for "phaser" fire support. Against all odds, Mike completed his tour of duty without taking a single hit from enemy fire and received multiple commendations before returning to Georgia to complete his Army career, retiring as a Captain. Living in Georgia after his discharge from the Army, he completed his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Armstrong State College before enrolling in the Medical College of Georgia. After medical school, he pursued a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and enjoyed a fulfilling career bringing countless babies into the world over a decades long career. He built a practice with the help of his associates into a highly successful operation before his retirement. As an attentive father of two children whom he loved dearly, he spent many hours at both little league games and piano recitals. Donning his trademark long-billed caps, many days of father and son time were spent trolling in small Georgia ponds for bass and bream. He instilled in his children a love of learning and a strong work ethic, teaching them to believe in themselves and to always do the right thing. As adults, his children have enjoyed successes in their own unique ways: Micah Leddy, attorney in Lexington, South Carolina has his own law firm and Leslie Ann Leddy is a classical pianist and has her own music school in Boulder, Colorado. In the last chapter of his wonderful life, he and his wife Kay Godawa Leddy (of Lawrenceburg & Nashville, TN and Savannah, GA), a life-long art teacher at the Savannah Country Day School, enjoyed a loving and long-term relationship prior to 11 years of marriage. Together they lived in Port Orange, FL in a warm household filled with lots of family activities, and time with their dearest dog Chloe and house full of rescue cats. Dr. Michael Leddy is survived by his wife Kay of Port Orange, FL, daughter Leslie Ann Leddy of Boulder, CO, son Micah & Kelley Leddy of Lexington, SC, grandchildren Reese, Jack & Audrey Leddy, sisters Letitia Sweeney & Rosemarie Leddy, and Goddaughters Heather Heard & Kristin Sweeney. He is also beloved by Kay's entire extended family. All of us will miss him deeply, and we know that we were blessed to be a part of a life well lived.
