More detail on this person: James R. Lane was
a friend of mine from April 1971 until his death
in December 1991. Jim started his military career
as an enlisted man in the National Guard and was
activated during the Cuban Crisis in 1962. He
remained on active duty, attended flight school in
1965-66 and became a warrant officer. He received
a direct commission as a 1LT, Armor Branch in the
late 1969 or 1970. He retired as a Major, not a
Captain. Jim and his wife were divorced when
Michael was young. Michael lived with his mother.

AS-350D Astar lost power at 1500 ft and crashed
killing 3 people. The one survivor said that Jim
turned the helicopter in his direction.
