More detail on this person: ervices for LTC (Ret) Robert (Bob) LaMonte will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove on Friday September 25th, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery. Bob, 85, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015. He was born in Queens, New York on November 27, 1929. After graduating from Huntington High School in 1949, he joined and served in the Navy for a short time. In November 1952, he married his beloved wife of 62 years, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Forde, a native of Northport, NY. He served in Korea and later 3 tours in Vietnam. Bob retired from the Army in November of 1976 at Ft. Hood after serving 27 years active duty. After retirement, Bob earned a master's degree in business management and later taught upper-level business courses at Tarleton State University, Killeen, Texas for 18 years. He served in the Army Reserve as well as the National and Texas Guards. Bob also worked for the United States Army Operational Test Command on West Fort Hood, finally fully retired, at the age of 81, with over 61 years of military and civilian service to his country. Bob enjoyed serving his community and was a member of many groups to include Central Texas Mended Hearts and American Heart Association; Copperas Cove Morning Exchange Club, Police and Fire Commission, Chamber of Commerce, and Military Affairs. Bob was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Copperas Cove where he volunteered and served on many committees. He is survived by his loving wife Jackie, a brother Allen LaMonte of Fairfax, Virginia; a son Larry LaMonte of Copperas Cove, 3 daughters; Lyn Cox of Austin, Jan Adkins and her husband Gary of Pflugerville, and Michaelle Pitrucha and her husband Jeff of Copperas Cove; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, four nephews and one niece, as well cousins and 2 "adopted" children who had been a part of his life for many years. If you would like to make a donation in Bob's honor, the family has chosen Grace United Methodist Church of Copperas Cove and The Wounded Warrior Project. Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove will be in charge of arrangements.
