More detail on this person: John Ronald Landreth, 72, of Woodway, Texas, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021, and was welcomed into heaven by his Savior, Jesus Christ. In his last moments of awareness, he was talking to his wife and smiling at a picture he had just unpacked of his three children in their younger years. He was the youngest child of John Dale and Juanita Landreth (Warren) born on February 8, 1949, in Oxford, Mississippi. Most of his childhood he was known as "Ronnie" and lived in Meridian, Mississippi until his military and professional career took him worldwide, spending a significant amount of time in Wyoming and Texas. John graduated from Meridian Senior High School in 1967. He would eventually receive a BS in Geology and a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Mississippi State University. He was an Eagle Scout with 33 merit badges and was offered appointments to both the Naval Academy and the US Military Academy. He chose the latter, where he was top 5% of his class during his time at West Point before resigning as an upperclassman so he could receive a Marine Corps commission, his true desire. He was a Captain and Intelligence Officer with a high security clearance in the Marine Corps where he also obtained EXPERT Marksmanship in BOTH rifle and pistol, a Major in the Army Reserves, a Naval Aviator, a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and Wyoming, a licensed Professional Geologist in Wyoming, and an MBA Graduate from Southern Methodist University. John spent his professional career working for various oil companies and eventually retired while working for EOG Resources. He enjoyed serving his church in various roles wherever he lived and was a licensed financial advisor with Christian Financial Concepts. John loved to spend time in the mountains with his family over the decades. Glacier National Park and the Smokey Mountains were very special to him. He always enjoyed a fun contest of marksmanship, would never pass up a hot doughnut or pork chops and rice, and always had a pair of aviators, a pen, and dental floss handy. Keeping his washing machine going strong for the last 34 years had become a humorous achievement as of late. There were very few days he didn't begin his day spending time with the Lord and end it with a game of solitaire. John is survived by his wife of 35 years residing in Woodway, Texas, Kathy Elaine (Warden); his daughter and son-in-law, Amy (Hollenbeck) and Reid Remington of Ft. Worth, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law John Nathan "Nate" and Brittany (Colclasure) of Woodway, Texas; grandchildren, Tristian, Connor, Caleb, Cason, Karli, Kingston, Brayden, Cade; sisters Ouida Landreth Tomlinson and Shelia Landreth Lewis both of Oxford, Mississippi, and a number of extended family. He was preceded in death by his son, Lane Michael Hollenbeck (October 2008) of Casper, Wyoming; his granddaughter, Cali Rebecca Remington (September 2021); his parents, John Dale Landreth (April 1997) and Juanita Warren Landreth (December 2006). A graveside service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Mt Zion Cemetery outside Bertram, Texas at 313 County Road 330A. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Texas in Waco. www.PregnancyCare.org
