More detail on this person: Lt. Col (Ret.) George C. Leach formerly from Chelsea, MA, died January 27, 2014. He was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife, Maureen W. Leach. Survivors include his loving children, Curtis Leach and wife, Iryna, of Las Vegas, NV, Robert Leach and wife, Teresa, of Cullman and Judith Smith and husband, Sam, of Madison. He was also predeceased by his loving wife Elaine Leach, formerly of Chelsea, and sister, Mary Marchese. Survivors also include step-daughters, Dawn Stone of Hollis, NH and Lori Lavoie of Lowell, MA; grandchildren, Jennifer Leach, Michelle Breitbach, Michael Breitbach, Daniel Leach, Sage Stone and Sophia Leach; sister, Joan O'Neal and husband Joe, of Windsor, CT; brother, Richard "Dickie" Leach and wife, Gale, of Surprise, AZ; brother-in-law, John "Jack" Marchese of South Yarmouth, MA; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. George was a 30 year veteran of the US Army. He loved his career both as a helicopter pilot and as a missile defense engineer. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church on Redstone, and active in many community groups including Better Investing, Kiwanis, and OSHA Lifetime Learning Instructors at UAHuntsville. George prepared hundreds of taxes through the IRS/AARP volunteer program over the years. "He lived well, was much loved, and left the world far better than he found it." Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. (www.laughlinservice.com)
