More detail on this person: Frederick W Leuppert Frederick William Leuppert was born March 27, 1931 in New York City to Adam and Katharina Leuppert. He grew up in New York where he graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and City College of New York. He entered military service in 1953 as a 2nd Lieutenant having graduated from CCNY as a ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate. LTC Leuppert served his country in Korea, Europe and completed two tours in Vietnam, earned a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California and completed requirements towards a PhD. He led Army Technical units at Yuma Proving Ground, was Signal Company Unit Commander in Germany, and Commander of 5th Battalion School Brigade at Fort Gordon, GA. An experienced aviator, he flew fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. LTC Leuppert retired from the Army in 1975 as a decorated career officer. He continued to serve his country performing research and development for the Mitre Corporation until he retired to enjoy the Virginia countryside. Not only a hero to our country, but a hero to his family and friends in the way in which he conducted his life. Frederick was a loving husband, devoted father, and a friend to all that knew him. Frederick passed away on January 4, 2009 in the loving arms of his family. LTC Leuppert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn, two sons, Frederick Leuppert Jr., and his wife, Ruth of Stafford, VA., Douglas Leuppert and his wife, Gabriela Arruda of Sudbury, MA, three daughters, Karen Leuppert-Smith and her fianc?, John Long of Culpeper, Janice Newman and her husband, Bert of Marshall, VA, and Allison Suddarth and her husband, Dave of Winston- Salem, NC, and nine grandchildren, Sarah, Stephen, Ethan, Nathaniel, Alexandra, Christine, Ashley, Adam and Tyler. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 8, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Christopher Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery (NEW) with military honors provided by Culpeper American Legion Post # 330 and V.F.W. Post # 2524.
