Einan's Funeral Home Richard "Doug" Larson, 60, of Benton City, passed away October 18, 2007, at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland. He was born May 5, 1947, in Seattle, WA, and has lived in the Tri-Cities for 4.5 years. After graduating from Sunnyside High School, Doug went on to make President's List at Shoreline Community College for Aviation, and was very proud of receiving his private pilot's license. He loved to fly, play golf and be with his wife and dogs. Doug was a "take charge" kind of guy and a great friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Doug was a pilot of a 747-400 and flew a CH-47 Chinook during his time as an Army aviator. He also served as instructor in the Army for DC6's, CH-47 Chinooks and Hueys, and was a bush pilot in Alaska. Doug received the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal 36th OLC and Bronze Star. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Larson; daughter and son-in-law, Jaime and Brian Norris; mother, Dorothy Schaneman; Julie Schaneman; Diane and Gene Schaneman Raysch; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Boris Larson, his Great Pyrenes dog. Celebration of Doug's life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2007, at Tagaris Winery, 844 Tulip Lane, Richland. Memorial contributions may be made in Doug's memory to Asthma Research, National Asthma Foundation, P.O. Box 30069, Tucson, AZ 85751.
