More detail on this person: On Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 9:30 PM Walt Ledbetter passed away at the age of 94. He completed this last mission and now may he rest in peace. For those who knew him understood he was special and was the kind of Marine and more importantly, a special kind of man - he made a difference to all who knew him and especially those under his command of HMM 263 at Marble Mountain Air Facility, Vietnam. We were fortunate to have served with him and will never forget and forever cherish the time we spent with him. He was a giant among giants and left his mark on all of us. Duncan was with him near the end and was very close to the family. He spoke with Nancy and their children and wanted all to know the family needs time to grieve. He is asking that we all honor their request to hold off an any calls or contact with the family yet. All of us want to say something about him and the impact he had on our lives, but first, the family needs time to process this. At present they are considering services in Beaufort, SC in about a month and we will keep you all informed as the details emerge. The family knows how important he was to all of us, and they know we will want to give our respects to them and at the funeral. Here is a thought_I am sure we all have special memories of our time with the Colonel. If you want to share that time with him, may I suggest you forward them directly to Duncan and me. We will then have them printed and will then share with the family. I thought this may be a special way for the squadron to act as a unit again.
