More detail on this person: William R. Lenderman, COL USA retired, my father-in-law, died a few years ago. He was given a full honors burial in Arlington. During the ceremony we heard of a few of the awards he earned during his two tours in Vietnam. I was surprised by the valor which he had never talked about in any way. Being a former Air Force pilot, we talked of flying quite often but the discussion never touched on his tours in Southeast Asia.
