Three GIs Die In Southern Copter Crash FT. STEWART, Ga. (UPI) - Three soldiers, including a student pilot from Swainsboro, were killed when a helicopter crashed into a pine thicket in Bulloch County Tuesday night, the Army said yesterday. The dead were identified as student pilot George T. Faircloth of Swainsboro and CWO Gordon G. Shirley, 23, of Hanford, Calif., a pilot instructor. Another out-of-state student pilot was killed, but his identification was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. This was the fifth fatal crash involving a helicopter out of Ft. Stewart since a helicopter training program was started at the Army base ten months ago. Twelve men have died in those crashes.
