C.V. Mills
MEDICINE PARK - Funeral for retired Chief Warrant Officer C.V. Mills, 72, Medicine Park, will be at
1 p.m. Tuesday at New Post Chapel, Fort Sill, with Chaplains Rabe and Fowler officiating.
Mr. Mills died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at a local hospital.
Burial with military honors will be at Niles Cemetery near Hinton under direction of Hodge Funeral
Home, Fletcher.
He was born June 27, 1930, in Hinton. He married Betty Zwirtz on Dec. 26, 1952, in Oklahoma City. He
served in the U.S. Army, was a veteran of the Korean War and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He
retired from service in 1979. He was a master-rated Army aviator, a recipient of the Distinguished
Flying Cross, the recipient of 16 Army Air Medals, two Purple Hearts and received the Vietnamese
Cross of Gallantry.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; three daughters: Barbara Barnes and her husband
Benny, Dothan, Ala.; Nancy Ellis and her husband Ronnie; and Brenda Mills, all of Lawton; a son,
Shafen Mills, Lawton; three granddaughters: Shanele Lepien, Julina Mills and Victoria Mills, all of
Lawton; four grandsons: Garrett Barnes, Longview, Texas; Wesley Mills Barnes, Dothan; Brandon Mills
and Skyler Stevens, both of Lawton; five brothers: Fred Mills, Cordell; Gene Mills, Fort Cobb; Jim
Mills, Perkins;
Ronnie Mills, Hinton; and Bob Mills, Bella Vista, Ark.; four sisters: Wanda Leuch, Anadarko; Wilma
Smith, Hinton; Connie F. Granger, Anadarko; and Kathy Stuart, Marlow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, G.E. and Alma Meece Mills; two brothers: Dean Mills and an
infant, Virgil Mills; and a sister, Dorothy Ross.CV Mills age 74 died at the Lawton Hospital,
Lawton, OK from cancer.
CV was a civilian instructor pilot with Southern Airways, Ft Wolters. Returned to active duty as a
CW2 at Ft Carson. Second tour, deployed with B Co. 172nd as unit (CH47) in April 68. Was infused
into the Muleskinners at Cu Chi. After a tour in Belgum, he retired as CW4 and moved to Lawton,
Ok.We were like brothers. Burial information: Niles Cemetery, Hinton, OK
