More detail on this person: Rowland W. Moore was born October 20, 1935 in Oelwein, IA. He died May 10, 2024 after a valiant 6 month fight with lung cancer. He was born to Oliver Wesley Moore and Dorothy S. Moore. His father Wesley was the band leader (affectionately known as the colonel) at BHS. Rollie spent his boyhood in W. VA before moving with his parents to Bakersfield, CA in 1946 where he graduated BHS and Bakersfield College. He enlisted in the Navy in 1955. While training as a naval aviator in Pensacola, FL he met and married the love of his life Dorothy Gail Hebert. They were married June 14, 1957 and would have celebrated their 67th anniversary next month. They had 3 children: Sherri L. Moore, Marlene E. Moore and Russell A. Moore. Rollie served in the Navy for 22 years graduating from the Naval War College in Monterey, CA. He had a distinguished Military career where achieved the rank of Commander before retiring to Bakersfield in 1976. Rollie was a natural born leader and served the community in many capacities up to his death. Right after his retirement he established the local MOAA chapter of retired officers. He was the chairman of the National Day of Prayer for decades. He also served on the city council and the board of the Rosewood Retirement Community. He devoted enormous amounts time and resources to charitable and Christian organizations. His main passions were for the mountains and music. His favorite place to spend time was with his wife at their home at the Ponderosa. He played the Baritone with the CSUB orchestra where he met Ray Vercammen. Ray and Nancy became family to Rollie and Dottie. Anyone who knew Rollie knew that his love for this country was surpassed only by his love for God and his Savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by his loving wife Dottie and his 3 children.
