More detail on this person: Kevin T. Maloney, a Vietnam War Army helicopter pilot who later became Vermont state commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, passed away suddenly on Dec. 5, 2018. He was 74 and lived in Winooski, Vt. Kevin grew up in Radburn NJ and was a graduate of Fair Lawn High School and Rutgers University. Before graduating from college, Kevin joined the Army and served as ahelicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in the conflict. Upon discharge from the Army he joined the Vermont National Guard where he served until his retirement in 2004 as a Chief Warrant Officer W4. He was a recipient of the Army Commendation Medal and Air Medal. In civilian life, Kevin became a Master Electrician and owner of Maloney Electrical in Montgomery Vermont. Kevin was an active member of the VFW in Essex Junction Vermont where he served as post commander 1991-1994. He went on to become commander of VFW state districts 2 and 4, and Vermont State Commander. Kevin was very dedicated to finding housing for Vermont's homeless Vets. He worked tirelessly for this cause for many years. Kevin was predeceased by his father Simon and his mother Norma. He is survived by his daughter, Calla Maloney, and son August Maloney, both of Montgomery. Other survivors include his sisters: Martha Kennedy of Indianapolis; Eileen Maloney of Fair Lawn; Mary Maloney and her husband Nicholas Magarelli of Fair Lawn and Terry Buksar and her husband, J. Craig Buksar, of Fair Lawn. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 12 noon at St. Anne RC Church in Fair Lawn NJ. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the VFW Post Essex Junction Vermont on Jan. 26 at 1pm. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
