John E. "Jack" McLaughlin, Jr., C.W.O. II Retired,
83, of Suffield, beloved husband of Dolores (Puc)
McLaughlin, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August
28, 2012. He was born on March 21, 1929, son of
the late John E. and Angela (Wright) McLaughlin.
Jack was a graduate of Technical High School in
Springfield, MA, Class of 1945. He served with the
U.S. Army during the Korean War and was the first
MP in Korea to be awarded the Silver Star for
Gallantry in Action. He served in Vietnam as a
helicopter pilot, where he was wounded in action
and awarded the Purple Heart. Jack retired from
the U.S. Army in 1966 after over twenty years of
service and was a true patriot. He then went on to
fly relief missions in Nigeria for UNICEF. He most
recently worked as a Security Inspector and
Armorer at Wells Fargo, retiring after 14 years of
service. Jack was an avid boxing enthusiast and
UCONN Women's basketball fan, a proud member
of the NRA, the Suffield Sportsman's Club, the
Agawam Sportsman's Club and the Valley Boating
and Fishing Club. Along with Dolores, his wife of
over 60 years, he leaves his son, John T. (Jay)
McLaughlin and his wife Susan of Springfield, MA;
his daughter, Debra McLaughlin and her husband
William McCarthy of Newington, CT, and daughter
Jill Miller of Springfield, MA; his brother,
Richard McLaughlin of Enfield CT and
brother-in-law Francis Driscoll of Chicopee Falls
MA. Jack also leaves his cherished grandchildren,
John Michael, Benjamin and Steven McLaughlin,
and Bonnie and Brett Miller, as well as a cousin,
two nephews and three nieces. He was
predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Faith
McLaughlin and Jane Driscoll. His family will
receive friends on Tuesday, September 4, 2012,
from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Nicholson & Carmon
Funeral Home, 443 East St. North (Rt. 159)
Suffield, CT. His family will also receive friends
at the funeral home on Wednesday morning,
September 5, 2012, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.,
followed by a procession to the Massachusetts
State Veteran's Cemetery in Agawam, MA for a
service with Military Honors that begins at 11
a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be
made to the Suffield Volunteer Ambulance
