(Russ) Miller, JR. passed on Nov. 1, 2011 in San
Antonio, Texas of a massive heart attack. Russ
was buried on Nov.5, 2011, with full military
honors in the family plot in Port Gibson, Ms. At
the time of his passing, Russ and his wife, Carol
were preparing for his retirement at the end of
this year and settling in their retirement home in
San Antonio, Texas.
Russ had a successful 27 year Army career.
Colonel Miller served two tours in Vietnam, the
first as enlisted, the second as an officer flying
Cobra helicopters. Russ flew Cobras under the
call sign Centaur 47, flying for F Trp, 4th
Cavalry from Nov. 1971-Nov. 1972 where he earned
three (3) Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), an Air
Medal with V device. Russ ended his 27 year
career as Commandant of ROTC at Ole Miss. After
retirement, Russ & his wife Carol settled in their
hometown of Port Gibson, Ms. where he was
Commandant for a Military school and for the last
20 years as Sr. Vice President of a local bank.
Russ touched all that knew him and will be missed
by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, a
sister and son, Walter Russell Miller, III. He is
survived by his wife Carol Miller, San Antonio,
Texas; daughter Angie Hudson, Waco, Texas and
five loving grandchildren.
All that knew Russ loved him.
