More detail on this person: Lt. Col. Richard
Eugene "Dick" Miller (US Army Retired) took his
final flight on Friday, October 7, after a rapid
but valiant battle with cancer. Dick was born in
1932 in Greenville, Ohio, a son of the late Lester
and Lottie Miller of Dayton, Ohio. His younger
brother Howard Miller preceded him in death.
Dick earned his Master Aviator wings during his 20
years in the Army. His Army experience also
included two tours of Vietnam as well as lengthy
assignments in Germany and Korea. After
retirement, he worked as a mortgage banker in
Homestead and as a tax preparer in Fort Walton
Beach. Dick enjoyed attending Kaiser High School
reunions (Dayton, Ohio, Class of 1950) and
maintained close friendships with many of his
Kaiser friends. He was proud to be a member of the
Order of Daedalian Seagull Flight 61, the
Otter-Caribou Association, and the Santa Rosa
Beach American Legion.
He is mourned by his wife of 49 years, Sigrid
Miller, as well as his daughter Yvonne Miller and
her partner Jenny Zimmerman, son Rich and his
wife Kim, and his three grandchildren Owen, Evan
and Lauren Miller.
Dick's final resting place will be at Barrancas
National Cemetery in Pensacola with full military
honors. A celebration of Dick's life will be held
on Monday, October 10, 4:00 pm at Emerald Coast
Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that any donations be made to the
Daedalian Foundation, which provides scholarships
to young men and women who are pursuing careers
as military aviators.
