More detail on this person: Mervin Wade Miller, 85, passed away on September 12, 2020 in Ocala, FL. He was born on April 17, 1935 to John and Delcie Miller in Shipshewana, Indiana. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1976 as a pilot rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four (CW4) and was a two-tour veteran of the Vietnam War in addition to one tour in Korea. Mervin's overseas assignments were with the 6th Helicopter Company, 8th Transportation Company (Light Helicopter), 196th Assault Support Helicopter Company and the 17th Combat Aviation Group. He was a highly decorated Master Army Aviator earning a Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals, twenty five Air Medals and two Army Commendation Medals in addition to various service ribbons. He retired to Ocala, FL, in 1978 and operated a lawn service for many years. During his retirement he enjoyed restoring antique flywheel engines, flying remote control aircraft, traveling, RV-ing, going on cruises, maintaining the best-looking yard on the block, and spoiling his grandchildren. He was an active member of the Ocala Elks Lodge 286 and the Ocala VFW Post 4209. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Mary Janet (Willett); brothers Earnest (June), Payson (Waneta), Howard (Jennie), and Orvan (Vivian); and sisters Bernice (Orva Yoder) and Beulah (Marv Neff). He is survived by his sons Mark (Judy) and Matthew (Marilyn); brother Truman (Joyce); sisters Vera (Willis Bontrager) and Ruby Fern (Eugene Weaver); grandsons Matthew and Zachary; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his companion for the last 5 years, LaVerne Hope. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Marion County. Services will be held at Robert's Downtown Funeral Home Saturday September 26th with visitation at 10:30 followed by a funeral service at 12:30. Final resting place will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell FL.
