More detail on this person: George Arthur Moore, 78, passed away at Houston Medical Center on Sunday, May 3, 2020. Born in Thomasville, Missouri, on New Year's Day, 1942, George was the son of the late Alfred and Helen Moore. He was a 1957 graduate of Powell High School in Wyoming, and in 1974 received his Bachelor's Degree of Science from Trinity Christian College in Texas. George proudly joined the United States Army in 1959 where he served five tours in Vietnam. Always striving to further himself both personally and in his career, George utilized his time in the military to develop his education by completing the Aircraft Maintenance Officer's course, Army Infantry School, and Helicopter Pilot School; he graduated from the Officer's Academy in 1967 and U.S. Army Ranger School in 1968. He was a decorated war veteran having received numerous medals and awards to include the Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal with two Palms, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Aviator Badge, the Air Medal, the Parachutist Badge, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. George retired in 1979 having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Subsequent to his military retirement, he worked for Aviance International Inc. He also enjoyed being a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and was a devout member of St. Innocent Orthodox Church in Macon. George is survived by his wife, Larysa Moore of Kathleen; children, Glenn Moore (Brigid) of Grayslake, IL and Catherine Butler (Allan) of Henderson, NV; stepsons, Alex Matveyenko of Lawrenceville and Daniel Matveyenko (Margarita) of Calgary, Canada; grandchildren, Liam, Allison, and Sydney Moore, all of Grayslake, IL, Eva Alexis Matveyenko of Lawrenceville, Maximilian Matveyenko of Calgary, Canada, Roman Matveyenko of the Ukraine; Stephanie, Justin, and Jessie Butler, all of Henderson, NV; and James Todd of Calgary, Canada. Regarding services for Mr. Moore: while restrictions have loosened some, measures must still be taken for the well-being and safety of the community, the families being served, and the funeral home staff. McCullough Funeral Home feels a strong responsibility to play our part in keeping everyone safe during these unprecedented times. As a result, friends will be able to drop in for viewing and to pay respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. During this time and for the safety of everyone in attendance, social distance measures will be enforced. Guests will be guided to remain 6 feet apart, masks are strongly encouraged, and hand-shaking and touching is discouraged. A funeral service will be held at St. Innocent Orthodox Church in Macon at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2020.
