More detail on this person: Richard Hunt Muirhead, "Dick," was born on Feb. 19, 1947 in Albany, N.Y. and died on Sept. 14, 2011 in Susanville, Calif. after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Barbara Muirhead of Susanville; daughter Janice Clarkson and husband Todd, and grandchildren Marissa and Mikayla, of Redding, Calif.; daughter Debbie Muirhead and grandchildren Charlotte and Allison Peterson and Ryan Muirhead, of Susanville; daughter Dawn Smith and husband TJ and grandchildren Cyrus and Caspin White and Heather, Amanda, Miranda, Samantha and Brianna Smith, of Susanville. He is also survived by brother Scott Muirhead; sisters Linda Muirhead and Janice Muirhead and her husband Vincent Leto, all of Connecticut. Mother-in-law Bonnie Rogers, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; brother-in-law Will Rogers and wife Patty, of Paradise, Calif.; brother-in-law Norman Rogers and wife Sheila, of Cottonwood, Calif.; sister-in-law Gayle Arnold and husband Don, of Adamsville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Barbara Boutelle Muirhead and William Muirhead and father-in-law William Rogers. Dick was an Eagle Scout, attended the University of Maine, he was a decorated veteran, Chief Warrant Officer II in the U.S. Army serving two tours in the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot in the 129th Assault Helicopter Company. He was a 21-year-veteran of the Department of Corrections at California Correctional Center. Dick was known for his generosity and loyalty to all and for being a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at Diamond Crest Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at 11 a.m. at Honey Lake Assembly at 464-905 Highway A-3 Janesville, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honey Lake Hospice at PO Box 1166, Susanville, CA 96130 in memory of Richard "Dick" Muirhead. There are many that will always remember the love and kindness Dick showed. He will be dearly missed.
