More detail on this person: Reginald Alton Murray passed away peacefully on November 17, 2019 in his home in Auburn California. He was born June 25, 1934 in Catawba County, North Carolina to Boyer Murray and Lois Hudson. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 52 years, Patricia Deloys Murray. He is survived by his sons, Reginald Murray Jr and Gregory Murray (wife Amy Murray); and grandchildren Elena Murray and Andrew Murray. Reginald was a 1956 graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina with a BA in Business Administration. In 1987 he retired as a Colonel in the United States Air Force following 30 years of dedicated service. During his career he was a command pilot of multiple aircraft with over 5,000 flight hours in the F-86D Sabrejet, the B-47 Stratojet bomber, the HH-53 Super Jolly Green helicopter, and as an instructor in the T-37 primary trainer. His decorated service included one tour in the Vietnam War as a rescue helicopter pilot. His final duty assignment was as Comptroller at McClellan Air Force Base. Reginald held a Masters Degree in Safety from Central Missouri State University. Following retirement from the United States Air Force, he taught aeronautics and flight safety with Embry Riddle University. Reginald served for several years on the Airport Commission for the City of Auburn, including as Chair, and was President of the Vintage Oaks Home Owners Association. Reginald has a lifelong passion for the game of golf and became a scratch golfer at an early age. He competed on the Duke University varsity golf team and later competed in a number of golf tournaments. In 1969 he was co-winner of the Lefty-Right National Championship. He competed numerous times for the Air Force golf team in inter-service competitions, and was the club champion at Sunset Whitney Country Club (Rocklin), and both Mather and McClellan AFB golf courses at various times. In 1988 he won the Sacramento County Senior Championship. In addition to golf, Reginald was a passionate fan of Duke Basketball and St Louis Cardinals baseball. Together with his wife Patricia, Reginald traveled annually to St. Louis to attend baseball games. His extensive travels took him to all 50 states. No services will be held at his request. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Services Organization (USO). Arrangements entrusted by Chapel of the Hills, Auburn.
