More detail on this person: Ralph J. Marshall of Woodlands Apartments passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Dubuque. Per his request, Ralph's body was donated to science at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. No services or visitation have been scheduled at this time. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Ralph was born on February 9, 1930, the son of Ralph G. and Ruth Marshall in Dubuque, IA. He was raised on a dairy farm on Peru Rd and attended East Stone Hill School. On August 2, 1947 Ralph enlisted in the United States Army and served in both the Korean War and Vietnam War as a pilot. He was shot down during both wars and was a POW for 18 months during the Korean War as a result. Ralph attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and retired from the Army in 1968 after 21 years of service. On March 29, 1975 Ralph married Lois H. Andersen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They resided in Miles, IA for 30 years before moving to Dubuque. While in Miles, Ralph served as mayor for 15 years. He was also actively involved in the American Legion where he served as the Miles Post Commander and the Second District Commander. He was a member of the Miles First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and treasurer. He also served on the East Central School Board. Ralph is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lois Marshall, two stepdaughters, Judy (John) Boothby of Miles and Vickey (Gary) Sanders of Andover; three stepsons, Michael (Kathy) Andersen of Preston, Lonny (Cindy) Andersen of Rising Son, MD, and Paul (Karla) Andersen of Morrison, IL. Additionally, Ralph is survived by two daughters, Ann and Jeannie; two sons, Robert and David; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, including granddaughter Niikia (John) Lacina of Badger, IA. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; three brothers; and a son, Michael.
