More detail on this person: NIXA Thomas Edward Moody, 70, Nixa, passed away al 3.14 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 1995, in Primrose Place in the loving presence of his three daughter. Tom was born Dec. 25, 1924 in St Louis, the son or James Sandridge and Ellen Kronenberger Moody. He began his militry career as a teenager in 1943 in the Marine Corps, where he become a corporal. He was attending The University of Missouli-Columbia as a general economics major when he met his wife, Nancy Louise Shelly. They married Dec 3. 1948, in Boonville. Nancy preceded him in death Jan 9. 1995. Tom was a World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Army veteran. During his 22 year military service, Major Moody received various medals and commendations including Air Medal with Third Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Sar Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Stars, united Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, ROK Presidential Unit Citation, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960, Distinguished Flying Cross, Army Commendation Medal, Legion of Merit and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star. He served in the Pacific, Korea, Germany and Vietnam before retiring in 1968. He is survived by four daughters, Susan Olivia Shafer and her husband, Ed, Battlefield, Karen Ann Colson and her husband, Larry, Springfield, Kathy Lynn Moody, Springfield, and Kirsten Annette Mortimer, Washington, D.C.; thee grandsons. John Joseph, Sampson, Ill., Cary Jean Colson and Christopher Thomas Colton, all of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews. In addlion to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers. James S., Esmond, Daniel, William and Robert; and four sisters, Annie Gray, Winifred, Olivia and Kathryn. Thomas, though often misunderstood, held a strong love for his wife and family, indubitable courage, a warm, generous heart and sweet nature. Thomas will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. Graveside services with military honors will be at 4 pm today in Manley Cemetery, Battlefield, under the direction of Harris, a Cassity Heritage Funeral Home, Nixa. The body has been cremated. The family has requested memorial donations be made to American Heart Association and/or American Diabetes Association. The Springfield News-Leader May 27, 1995
