Michie, age 68, of Rhinelander, died on February 10, 2007 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI. He was born on August 29, 1938 in Blue Island, IL to Andrew and Florence (McCanna) Michie. James moved to the Harshaw area where he attended schools, graduating from the Rhinelander High School in 1956. He also attended college at UW River Falls and completed his degree through the military. He served in the US Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1976. He served two tour of duties in VietNam as a helicopter pilot. After his military service he was employed by the Lincoln Hills Boys School and then went to work for the State of Wisconsin Department of Justice. He was with the Justice Dept. for 15 years retiring in 1993. He married Barbara Jones on October 15, 1960 and they lived in various locations until settling in Harshaw in 1976. He was a member of the Nativity of Our Lord Parish-St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the VFW Ray Rousseau Post 3143, and he was a past member of the Rhinelander Rotary Club. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Barbara of Rhinelander, his two daughters Susan (Martin) Rueter of St. Louis, MO and Erin (Alan) Higley of Shoreview, MN, his son Mark (Debora) Michie of Harshaw, WI, 6 grandchildren Brandon and Ali Michie, Jordan and Jared Rueter and Adam and Matthew Higley, his brother Donald Michie of El Paso, TX, his brother and sister in law Kenneth and Mary Jane Jones of Hazelhurst, his aunts and uncles Marian and Richard Franck of Minocqua, WI and Bernard "Bud" and Midge McCanna of White Bear Lake, MN, his cousins Bernard "Butch" and Janet McCanna of Little Canada, MN and Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for James will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 from 5-8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Carlson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the Nativity of Our Lord Parish-St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father John Gerritts officiating. There will also be visitation at the Church on Thursday from 11:00 AM until just prior to the services. Interment will be in the Union Grove Cemetery. A memorial is being established in Jim's name and can be directed to his family. The Carlson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for his family.
