Manwaring Jr, 65, of Victory, Vt., formerly of
Plainville and Bristol, died peacefully Sept. 16,
2012, surrounded by his children at the VITAS
Hospice Unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury.
Paul was born Dec. 11, 1946, in Waterbury, a son
of the late Paul N. and Ester (Lorensen) Manwaring
Sr. He was a graduate of Plainville High School
Class of 1965 where he was a member of the
National Honor Society. He was also a graduate of
Chaminade University in Hawaii earning a
bachelor's degree in business. He was the
owner/operator of Yosemite Enterprises, which is a
cross country trucking company. Paul proudly
served his country during the Vietnam War as a
Captain in the U.S. Army where he was also a
Helicopter Pilot and a Purple Heart recipient.
After sustaining injuries in Vietnam he was later
stationed in Hawaii. He was a Harley Davidson
motorcycle enthusiast and was a member of the
Harley Owners Group (HOG). He was a lifetime
member of the National Rifle Association and was
an outdoor enthusiast enjoying all kinds of
recreational vehicles. After his retirement, Paul
enjoyed volunteer work at Dartmouth Hitchcock
Hospital in New Hampshire, the Vermont VA
Hospital and at local animal shelters. He loved
spending time with his grandchildren, who called
him "Poppa Paulie" and enjoyed sharing in all
their activities.
Paul leaves his children, Paul N. Manwaring III,
of Bristol, Kendra Carney and her husband, Troy,
of Bristol and Kimberly Benane, of New Hartford;
his brother, Robert Manwaring, of Florida; his
sister, Barbara Cassella, of Wallingford; his
grandchildren, Joshua, Nathan, Luke and Lily; and
many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Paul's life will be
held Friday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Church of
Our Savior, 115 W. Main St. in Plainville.
Military honors will follow the service. Burial
will be private. Family and friends may gather at
the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St. in
Plainville on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be
made to an animal charity of the donor's choice.
