More detail on this person: James H Mapp James H. Mapp, 82, Brigadier General, US Army, Ret., passed away on Nov 26, 2011, in Ormond Beach, Florida. Military Funeral Honors Ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. General Mapp was born August 8, 1929, in Athens, Georgia, to Armond and Rosalynd Mapp. A product of Officer Candidate School, General Mapp graduated from the Army General School at Fort Riley, Kansas, in January of 1951. His career included a variety of command and staff assignments. Within the 1st Calvary Division, General Mapp served as Assistant Chief of Staff G3, and Commander, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry in Vietnam. General Mapp was assigned to the Philippines as Chief, Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group. In 1978, he returned to Fort Hood, Texas, for duty as Assistant Division Commander of the 2nd Armored Division, and later as Assistant Division Commander, 1st Calvary Division. General Mapp attended Army War College, Airborne Ranger School, Command & General Staff College where he earned a Master's of Science from Shippensburg State College. General Mapp's awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star , Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (4 awards), Bronze Star (W/V), Air Medal (W/V) (30 awards), Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge W/Star, Master Aviation Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Ranger Tab. General Mapp and his wife Ann retired in October, 1980, to operate a registered cattle ranch in Copperas Cove, Texas, before settling into beach life in Ormond Beach, FL.
