More detail on this person: Frederick G. Michaelis, 71, of Howell, N.J., passed away on Sunday February 14. Mr. Michaelis is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lee (Eileen), and two children: Erin and Bill. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Kaleb, Emily, and William. Fred was a longtime resident of Great Kills. As a young man his love of flying lead him to obtain his pilot's license before his driver's license. Fred was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War who flew Hueys and earned The Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal & Air Medal. His happiest moments were spending time with his family. Military funeral services will be held at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, February 23rd at 1:30 p.m.
