More detail on this person: T.J. Miller, 70, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2017, at his home
in McLean, VA. He was born in Sacramento, CA and spent his formative years in Tampa, FL. As a
captain in the U.S. Army, he served two tours as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and his awards
included the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He worked on Capitol Hill as an aide to
Congressman Charles Bennett of Florida and, later, in the executive branch, as an assistant to the
Secretary of the Navy. He spent many years in marketing, business development, and operations
support for a number of corporations including General Dynamics, Network Equipment Technologies,
and Unisys.
He was a devoted husband to Diane Miller; and a loving father to Katherine Miller and Carter Miller
(Julie). He loved his country and baseball, and valued competence, intelligence, humor, and
kindness.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran
Church of the Redeemer, 1545 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA. A reception will immediately follow in
Parents Hall at the church. Contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer or McLean
Little League, P.O. Box 222, McLean, VA 22101.
