More detail on this person: Funeral services for Lt. Colonel George Samuel Mangum, age 83 of Ruston, will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Owens Memorial Chapel. Officiating the service will be Reverend Rolly Walker. Burial will follow in Serenity Gardens Cemetery in West Monroe under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mr. Mangum was 83 on September 11. He died September 13, 2015 in Ruston. Mr. Mangum received his B. A. in education from La. Tech in January 1956. He entered the Air Force in March 1956 and served 24 years. George flew various fixed engine planes as a flight examiner and instructor pilot. Upon receiving orders for Vietnam, he trained in helicopters and was sent to Vietnam as a rescue commander. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he taught Air Force Junior ROTC at Bolton High School in Alexandria, La. for 16 years. George kept a beautiful yard, loved wildflowers and had beautiful trails through his woods.

Mr. Mangum is survived by his wife of 61 years: Shirley Colby Mangum; his daughter: Sara M. and husband Greg Dale; his son: Sam Mangum, Jr. and wife Lisa. Grandchildren: Angela M. Lyons of Shreveport, La., Natalie M. Moffit of Wichita, KS., Catherine Dale of Ruston, La., Heather Dale of the Woodlands, TX., Nicholas Dale of the Woodlands, TX, Tobi Mangum and Tori Mangum of Calhoun, La; great granddaughter: Colbi Giglio of Shreveport; great grandson: Turner Davis Moffit of Wichita, KS., many nieces and nephews.

The Barksdale Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers for the interment. Pallbearers for the service will be Philip Putnam, James Putnam, Darby Miller, Bentley Curry, Sam Mangum, Justin Pruitt. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM service time Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Owens Memorial Chapel.
