More detail on this person: Mr Wesley Richard Marks, 60 OBITUARIES Anchorage Daily News (AK) - Sunday, July 17, 2005 Longtime Homer resident Wesley Richard Marks Jr., 60, died July 14, 2005, from complications of cancer at home. He was surrounded by his family. A gathering to recognize his life will be from 4-6 p.m. July 24 at his home. Mr. Marks was born Dec. 10, 1944, in Chicago to Wesley Richard Marks Sr. and Virginia M. (Bakken). He attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Fla., and received a bachelor of science degree. Mr. Marks served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was part of the evacuation of Saigon during the Vietnam War. He also served as a presidential helicopter pilot from 1970-73. Mr. Marks retired from the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1988. He first came to Alaska during the early 1980s and moved to Homer in 1988. In 1992, he became owner of the Art Shop Gallery with his wife, Karin, in Homer. Mr. Marks enjoyed reading and traveling. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marya Clair Marks, and father, Wesley Marks Sr. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karin Marks of Homer; mother, Virginia Marks of Homer; sister, Linda Fleming of Crowheart, Wyo.; brother, Michael Marks of Oak Harbor, Wash.; father-in-law, Russ Johnson of Homer; and brother and sister in-law, Brad and Diana Johnson of Rocky Mount, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Homer, 3953 Bartlett St., Suite 3, Homer 99603.
