More detail on this person: Dennis graduated
from the University of Akron, was commissioned in
the Army, received his wings and last flew as a
Medivac pilot in Vietnam. He was a captain at the
time of his release from active service. I cannot
give you his dates of service but assuming he
graduated from UA in '65, flight training, et al,
in '66, he would have served between '66&'68.
Also do not know how many tours Dennis served in
country.
I did my nine years in the Navy, leaving in
Aug.'66. Denny and I never really discussed RVN
except the really truly silly and/or amazing
shit.
He was a fearless, crazy, booze & fun loving
Irishman. Owned several restaurants with his
cousin and was a former president of the Ohio
Restaurant Assn.
Denny passed away from cancer in 2001, never
once complaining of his illness. One of my heroes
for sure.
Two of his favorite stories were; trying to get
one of the original underpowered Hueys off the
ground with more Arvin's aboard than he could
count -- and making it, and making a pizza run in
weather grounding flight activities -- except the
pizza for the brass.
