More detail on this person: Mr James Richard Mccomb Sr, 63 SOUTH CAROLINA OBITUARIES: B - M State, The (Columbia, SC) - Saturday, March 25, 2006 EFFINGHAM - Mr. James Richard McComb, Sr., 63, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, in the VA Hospital in Augusta, GA, after an illness. Mr. McComb was born in Florence County, the son of Etheldreda Myers McComb and the late James Link McComb. He was a graduate of Pamplico High School, and was a lifelong Tiger fan, attending Clemson University, where he was on the Persing Rifle Team and graduated from Francis Marion College. Mr. McComb honorably served during the Vietnam era, flying the Chinook Helicopter, earning the rank of Captain and was awarded The Bronze Star Medal and The Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and continued his service in the SCARNG, reaching the rank of Major. He later served Florence County as Civil Defense Director. Many in the Columbia, SC, area may remember "Jim" as the owner of Dockside Restaurant at Lake Murray in the 1980s and can attest to the fact that he never met a stranger. He will be missed by his many, many friends and family and will be remembered for his love of life and laughter. Survivors include his mother, Etheldreda Myers McComb of Effingham, SC; two sons, James Richard "Jamie" McComb, Jr. of Columbia, SC, and Steve Cubine (Julie) McComb of McKinney, TX; one daughter, Kim Cubine-Quillian (Chris) of Washington, DC; one sister, Jackie Cribb of Effingham, SC; one aunt, Jeannette (Jake) Lee of Effingham, SC; two grandsons, Trent and Jake Cubine, both of McKinney, TX; one granddaughter, Charleston Quillian of Washington, DC; two nephews, Al Cribb of Effingham, SC, and Will (Nicole) Weaver of Myrtle Beach, SC; three nieces, Lisa (Glenn) Hellof of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Resa (Eric) Engelke of Surfside Beach, SC, and Kristina Cribb of Effingham, SC; and a special friend, Audrey Granade of Augusta, GA. Mr. McComb was predeceased by his sister, Judy Weaver. Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Hebron Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 8641 Francis Marion Road, Scranton, SC 29591. The family will have visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Etheldreda M. McComb, 8441 Friendfield Road, Effingham, SC 29541.
