More detail on this person: Dale McDonald Dale McDonald Register-News (Mount Vernon, IL) - Tuesday, October 14, 2014 Dale E. McDonald, 81, of McLeansboro, passed away 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at his home. He was born July 29, 1933, in Thackeray, the son of Clarence H. McDonald and Blanche M. (Sloan) McDonald. He married Glenda Kay Harre on Aug. 25, 1956, in McLeansboro and she preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 1994. He married Marilyn Elaine (Bistline) Gorkowski on Oct. 21, 1994, in Albuquerque, N.M. He attended the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro. He served as lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force, having retired in 1977, with 22 years of service. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal. Dale loved to play pool with Air Force buddies. He loved gardening and watching Cardinal ball games. He was an avid University of Arizona basketball fan. He loved to sit and watch animals in their backyard. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn McDonald of McLeansboro; three sons, Richard Dale McDonald and wife Diane of Tucson, Ariz., Robert Eugene McDonald of Phoenix and Scott Glen McDonald and fiance Josie of Chandler, Ariz.; two stepsons, Brad Gorkowski and wife Cyndee of Tucson, Ariz., and Bruce Gorkowski and wife Karen of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two stepdaughters, Karilyn Klipple and husband Wayne of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Karen Delissio and husband Ed of Middletown, Del.; two brothers-in-law, Larry Bistline and wife Pat of Runnells, Iowa and Forest Gorkowski and wife Sharon of Toledo, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Ardelys Newton of Osage, Iowa and Joyce Lowery and husband John of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 10 plus one on the way great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Kay; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Maxine Harre; sister-in-law, Freddie Lou (Harre) Hartman; stepgrandson, Ryan Silsby; and brother-in-law, Frank D. Mayberry. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Harre Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Sefried officating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 106, McLeansboro. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Harre Funeral Home. Dale's personal request was to be cremated and a private family service will be conducted at a later date. For those who wish, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital and Hospice of the Good Samaritan of Mt. Vernon.
