More detail on this person: Charles Franklin McGee Charles Franklin McGee, 77, of Savoy, died at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 29, 2006) at home. He was born March 4, 1929 in Mound City, a son of Charles Franklin and Gladys England McGee. He married Florence Meadows on Aug. 21, 1950 in Metropolis. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Michael McGee; two daughters, Bobbie Gregg and Doris Brown and five grandchildren. Mr. McGee received a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1970 before retiring as a lieutenant colonel. During his time in the Army, he served in Vietnam and was an airplane and helicopter pilot. He received several medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star, Masters Army Aviator badge and the Merit Service medal. After his retirement from the military, he was a personnel officer at the UI from July 1, 1972, to Sept. 1, 1985. He served on the Chanute Military Retiree Council, the East Central Illinois Retired Officers Association and the American Legion Post No. 2910. He served on the Rantoul school board from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. He enjoyed fishing and playing the organ and piano.
