More detail on this person: McGKAN, L T COL STANDLEY ANDERSON - Funeral services for Lt Col McGhan, 41 of Ft. Walton Beach who died Sunday at the Air Force Medical Center, Lackland A.F.B., San Antonio, TX will be held Firday at the Carey Hand Chapel at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow with full military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery. Lt Col McGhan was born in Washington, DC and moved to Orlando from Chevy Chase, MD in 1951, with his parents, the late Fred W. cGhan and Ida McGhan Zender. while in high school he joined the Civil Air Patrol and teh Air National Guard. Lt Col McGhan was a Distinguished Air Graduate of the Citadel, B.A. in 1962. His pilot training in jet aircraft was at Webb A.F. Base, Big Springs, TX, followed by heliciper training at Stead A.F.B., Reno, NV. He served in the Air Rescue and Recovery Service. While based at DaNang, R.V.N, he and his crew rescued 28 downed aiarmen for which he received the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross with four Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a graduate of the Air Comanc and Staff College, Montgomery, AL and Troy State University, M.A. Degree. He was a member of the Order of Daedalians and the Citadel Alumni Association. Lt Col McGhan was retired on total disability in November 1980 at teh rank of Lt Col while based at Huriburt Field, Ft Walton Beach serving withe the First Special Operations Wing. He is survied by his beloved wife, Gingeriee Heitmutier McGhan, formerly of Bethesda, MD; sonCadet Dean W. McGhan; daughter, Denise T McGhan; mother, Ida McGhan Zander; brother, Leland A McGhan; sisters Adele McGhan Hinterthan and Patricia McGhan gough. In lieu of lfowers memorials may be made to the American Cancel Society or the Citadel Scholarship Fund, Charleston, SC. Home address 218 Casper Dr, Ft Walton Beach, FL 32548. Arrangements by Carey Hand Chapel, a Guardian Plan Chape.
