More detail on this person: CancerMaggie Valley, NC -Harry "Ed" McLeod, 62, a retired Chief Warrant Officer, Army aviator and Senior Computer Systems Analyst of the City of Savannah, GA, died of cancer on January 18th at his home in Maggie Valley, NC. He was born in Norfolk, VA, October 1, 1943, the son of Doris Bennett McLeod and the late Harry Beldon McLeod. He received a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Studies from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Ed served in the United States Army for over 20 years. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, one as a Special Forces commando, one as a pilot. After returning from his second tour in Vietnam, he flew med-evac helicopters before transitioning to the OV-ID Mohawk, a fixed-wing, aerial surveillance aircraft. He retired from the Army in 1986 as a Chief Warrant Officer Four. From 1986 to 2001, he worked for the City of Savannah and was a Senior Computer Systems Analyst when he retired. Many of the programs hewrote are still in use there today. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" McLeod; his mother, Doris McLeod of Norfolk, VA; two children, Bill McLeod and his wife, Caroline Herbert of Silver Spring, MD and Anne Pelts and her husband, CWO Dennis Pelts of Clarksville, TN; two grandchildren, Kieran and Hannah; and a brother, Michael McLeod and his wife, Carol, of Sunrise, FL. He was a loving husband and father who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 21 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church with Father Frank Doyle officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
