Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - Wednesday, January 6, 1993 OGDEN--Richard Alonzo Mickelsen, 59, died Sunday, January 3, 1993 in a helicopter accident near Powder Mountain Ski Resort. He was born July 31, 1932 in Kirtland, New Mexico, a son of Lorin Peter and Sidney Christensen Mickelsen. He married Ruby Jane Chulke, May 29, 1959 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died March, 1972. He married Judy Ann Burch, August 1, 1972 in the Ogden LDS Temple. He had served as a major in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he distinguished himself as a helicopter pilot. He received several military commendations during his time of service. He was employed as a civilian helicopter pilot and certified flight instructor. He was a member of the LDS Church and has served in various church positions, including Roy Stake athletic director and Sunday School president. He served an LDS mission to New Zealand. Surviving are his wife, Judy, of Roy; six sons and four daughters, Alfred S. Mickelsen, Pleasant Grove; Alfonso S. Mickelsen, San Diego; Richard A. Mickelsen, Jr., Ogden; S. Gregory Mickelsen, Riverdale; Patrick K. Mickelsen, Zackery J. Mickelsen, Georgia C. Mickelsen, all of Roy; Tina L. Merrett, Kaysville; Brenda M. Bischoff, Rexburg; Bonnie D. Mickelsen, Riverdale; 17 grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Sidney C. Mickelsen, Los Angeles; two brothers and four sisters, Lorin Peter Mickelsen and Daniel A. Mickelsen, both of Idaho Falls; Arlene M. Watson, Alhambra, Calif.; Margene M. Hall, Orem; Jeanette M. Hill, Henderson, Nevada; Kathryn M. Daynes, Provo. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at the Roy 3rd Ward Chapel, 5930 South 2200 West. Friends may call at the Myers Mortuary in Roy, Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Graveside services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., in the Central Cemetery in Grant, Idaho.
