More detail on this person: LTC James R Mires Marines recuperate from crash United Press International NEW ORLEANS - Two Marines recuperated Friday from injuries sustained in a south Louisiana helicopter crash that killed their commanding officer during a routine mission. Lt. Col. James R. Mires, 42, of Orange, Texas, suffered fatal injuries in the crash Thursday of a Huey helicopter into a makeshift levee 2 miles east of Morgan City. Lt. Col. John G. Burns, 40, of Philadelphia, suffered a fractured back and was listed in critical condition Friday at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery. The crash also injured Cpl. Bill J. Wilson, 20, of Lakeside, Calif., who is listed in fair condition in the intensive care unit, suffering from post-concussion syndrome.
