According to my cousin, whose mother was married
to the Sr. Missildine, (not sure if they are
connected) she said he was home on leave and
slipped in the shower and died, either from a
heart attack or being hit on the head. The news
article I have which is in a box with the Bronze
Star Medal, says the 13th Aviation Battalion, I do
not know the date of the paper, it was in the
medal box when it was sent to me, also it says "he
received the citation on January 30" - this story
started back in May when I posted the obit on the
internet. A lady who lived in Colorado ran a
consignment shop and this item came in to be sold.
It is in a box marked Bronze Star, has a small
photo of a couple (assuming this is him and his
wife) and a newspaper article with a photo of
"Capt C.E. Missildine receives 2nd, 3rd, 4th Oak
Leaf Clusters to Air Medal", but that info is not
about the Bronze Star Medal, which I have. I do
research on the wars and with the name and the
war, she thought I could find where it belonged. I
have been in touch with Bill Missildine, the
brother, he has not commented on his cause of
death, and I am sending it to him, he knows the
daughters and will get it "back home". Since he
died in 1971and supposedly was home on leave, I
would assume he was home from the Vietnam War.
In with the medal are also 2 (chevrons) and a
small tie clasp made like the chevrons (I think
that is the correct word), also another tie clasp
with the initial "M" on it. His wife apparently
remarried as I think she lives in Atlanta, Ga. He
was in Birmingham when he died. How all this was
in Colorado, I do not know, but would love to
know.
