More detail on this person: Colonel Bobby L. Moore was Commander of Ft. Sam Houston from February 28, 1986 to August 31, 1987.

A native of Indian Creek, Texas, Col. Moore received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Technological University in 1957. He earned a Master's Degree from Central Michigan University. He is a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge. Col. Moore also holds the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross (one oak leaf cluster), the Bronze Star (one oak leaf cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (three oak clusters), and 28 awards of the Air Medal; and numerous other awards.

Shortly after he began his Army career in 1957, Col. Moore was a company commander with the 27th Infantry in Hawaii, and then served as Brigade Aviation Officer with the 25th Infantry Division, Hawaii. He served in Korea one year, 1959-1960. He served in Vietnam twice, the first assignment from 1966-1967; and was an aviation platoon leader, 229th Aviation Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. Col. Moore returned in 1968-1969 as Executive Officer, 118th Assault Helicopter Company, 45th Aviation Battalion, and Company Commander, 155th Assault Helicopter Company, 105h Aviation Battalion. He served at the U.S. Army Aviation School, Ft. Rucker, Alabama, as Flight Commander in the Department of Tactics. In a previous tour at Ft. Sam Houston, 1970-1973, Col. Moore was Chief of Operations Branch, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Training, Headquarters Fifth U.S. Army. From there he went to assignments as Battalion Commander, 10th Aviation Battalion, Ft. Lewis, Washington; and as chief of training in the Department of the Army Inspector General's Office in Washington D.C. He served as Senior Army Advisor to the WI National Guard, Madison, WI, 1979-1982. Before coming to Ft. Sam Houston as Commander in 1985, he was Commander, U.S. Military Community Activity and Deputy Commander in Bamberg, Germany.

Following retirement, he was Executive Director of the San Antonio Food Bank for seven years.

Bob is predeceased by his parents, Katy and Heber Moore; son John Matthew; and daughter, Carolyn Denise. He and his wife Joy have three children: Marilyn of San Antonio; Leslie and husband Robert of Tyler, TX; and son Stephen and wife Lauren of Dallas. They proudly claim four grandsons: Mitchell and wife Tabitha of Georgia, Zachary of Tyler, and Matthew and Charlie of Dallas.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 4, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
