Morton 20-year military veteran has son in Catawissa Ulysses D. Morton, 83, formerly of Jonathan Road, Shamokin Dam, passed away at 9:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at Grayson View, Selinsgrove, where he had lived since 2007. He was born April 26, 1928, in Jacksonville, N.C., a son of the late Jacob and Mattie (Kellum) Morton. He was married to the former Alma C. Rupp, who preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2006. Ulysses retired in 1968 after more than 20 years of military service, first with the Navy and last with the Army. Following his retirement from the military, he was a truck driver for Wood-Mode, Kreamer. He attended the Church of the Nazarene, Selinsgrove. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and repairing and restoring clocks. The greatest joy of his life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law: Cynthia Kline and husband, Charles, of Sunbury; Effie and Rudy Reggia of Port Treverton; Lisa and Richard Zelina of Huntersville, N.C.; two sons: Durant Morton of Shamokin Dam; Philip Morton of Catawissa; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lewis and Edwin Morton, and one sister, Isabell Morton, all of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, where the funeral will be held at 11 with the Rev. Jeremy Smallwood officiating. Burial with military honors by American Legion Victory Post 25 and V.F.W. Post 6631, both of Selinsgrove, will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
