More detail on this person: Darrell Joe Mose Graveside service for retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Darrell Joe Mose, 82, Lawton, will be at 1 p.m. today in Highland Cemetery with Chaplain Lt. Col. Paul Andreasen, Fort Sill, officiating. Chief Warrant Officer 4 Mose died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at a local care center. Burial with military honors will be under direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Bixby, to Victor Lee and Eunice Nadine Smith Mose. He was a longtime resident of Lawton and an Oklahoma native. He grew up during the Depression and sold scrap metal and pecans to help feed his brothers and sisters. During his time in the Army Air Corps he was a helicopter pilot and instructor and a mechanic. He served in World War II, then became an Army helicopter pilot and flew many missions in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, as well as flying President Eisenhower to Mexico. He once performed an entire hospital evacuation in a flooded area. He was awarded numerous military citations and medals, including three Bronze Stars. He had one experience flying in under fire to rescue a downed helicopter, repairing the helicopter, and then flying it out safely. He was a self-taught guitarist and played at several local clubs. After retirement from the military as a Chief Warrant Officer, he restored furniture and ran a local antiques shop. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Victor L. and Karen Mose, Stillwater; a granddaughter and her husband, Amanda and William Best, Piedmont; two great-grandchildren: Deanna and James Best; a stepson, James Guthrie; a sister, Mona Stewart, Wilton, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three daughters: Deborah Lynn Mose, Linda Diane Mose and Constance Mose; a son, Johnny Mose, an infant child; his wives, Juanita Mose and Shirley Mose; a sister, Virginia Cummings; and four brothers: Jimmy, Warren, Roger and David.
