More detail on this person: Michael B Murray, 68 MURRAY, MICHAEL B. Times Union, The (Albany, NY) - Wednesday, January 5, 2005 SCHENECTADY -- Michael B. Murray, 68, of Albany, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2005, at St. Clare's Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of the late Cornelius B. and Gertrude (Hogan) Murray, and moved to Albany while still a young child. He attended parochial school at Vincentian Institute and later attended Christian Brothers Academy. He completed his secondary education at Cranwell Prep School in Lenox, Mass. and continued his Jesuit education at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., graduating in 1958. Immediately thereafter, he entered the military as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he pursued a career in finance on Wall Street and then answered his nation's call for another tour of duty, serving two years in the Quartermaster Corps in Vietnam. After his discharge with the rank of captain, he returned to Albany and worked for the office of the N.Y. State Comptroller, Department of Audit and Control, retiring in 2002. Following his retirement, he volunteered his services at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany, and remained throughout his life a staunch supporter of veteran's causes, maintaining an active membership in the Tri-County Council Vietnam Era Veterans. He was also president and served for several years on the Point of Woods Homeowners Assoc. Throughout his life, Mike was an ardent sports fan, with a special passion for Army football, and the New York Yankees. We are all sure he will be looking forward to arguing with his beloved Lord for dispelling the Curse of the Bambino to allow the Red Sox to finally beat the Yankees this year. A big bear of a man with a gruff exterior, but with a kind, soft heart, he will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Roberta Samek Murray, with whom he shared a wealth of happy times, especially those vacations on the Maine Coastline, and who cared for him with great tenderness and love during his difficult final illness. He is also survived and will be sorely missed by his brother and sister-in-law, Cornelius D. and Martha McGraw Murray of Albany, and their three children, his nephews, Michael, Christopher and Mark. Michael's family would also like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home in Niskayuna, who treated him with such care, dignity, kindness and respect during his final illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Church, 900 Madison Ave., Albany, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday, January 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Magin and Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave., Albany. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Tri-County Council Vietnam Era Veterans, 257 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211.
