Henry Ruffin Mangum Jr., 80, of Hixson passed away Friday, May 11, 2001, at a local hospital. He was born in Henderson, N.C., and had a home in Long Beach, N.C., and traveled extensively with the military. He was retired from the U.S. Army and was of the Episcopal faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola "Boe" Alston Mangum. He is survived by two daughters, Laura Mangum Coleman of Hixson, Tenn., and Frances Mangum Hensel of Cleveland, Ohio; one son, Henry R. Mangum III of St. Augustine, Fla.; six grandchildren, Heather Coleman Hicks of Wilmington, N.C., Christopher Coleman of Ten Mile, Tenn., Kimberly Hensel and William Hensel of Cleveland, Henry R. Mangum IV of Greenwood, S.C., and William Carrier Mangum of Natchitoches, La.; one great-granddaughter, Madison Kenan Barnes Hicks of Wilmington, N.C.; and a brother, David A. Mangum of Durham, N.C. Private memorial services will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 519 E. Fourth St., Chattanooga, TN 37403.
