More detail on this person: Jerry R. Matthews KILLEEN -- Services for retired Lt. Col. Jerry Rodgers Matthews, 66, of Killeen will be at 4 p.m. today at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen with Brian L. Thom officiating. He died Thursday, April 11, in Killeen. Mr. Matthews was born in Bell County and lived in Killeen most of his life. He graduated from high school in Albuquerque, N.M. After 22 years in the U.S. Army and his retirement in 1976, he graduated with high honors from American University in Killeen. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with one silver service star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with 18 numerals, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal and Legion of Merit. Survivors are his wife, Winna Denson Matthews of Killeen; a son, Bill Matthews of Round Rock; two daughters, Libby Ervin of Florence and Robin Root of West Point, N.Y.; three brothers, William Matthews of D'Hanis, Kirby Matthews of Holt, Mo., and Wayne Matthews of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to any charity.
