More detail on this person: Loren Nichols, a Scout Pilot, 76, passed away peacefully in his home in Granbury on December 31, 2019 surrounded by his family, with a full and joyful heart. Celebration of Life: 2 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2020 at Acton United Methodist Church. Loren was born in 1943 to Clyde P. and Rosebelle Nichols and grew up in El Paso, TX. He earned his BA in English from Texas Western and went on to study Public Administration in graduate school. He joined the army in 1966 and served as a pilot in Viet Nam, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Army Commendation Medal with V for valor, and numerous other awards. Captain Nichols left the army in 1969, returning to El Paso. In 1972 he married Karen Lynn Jackson and began working for the U.S. Border Patrol, retiring as Deputy Chief of Air Operations in 1999, after 29 years of service. Loren resided in Pecan Plantation since 2005, where he enjoyed many years connecting with new friends, while maintaining long-time friendships with comrades and lifelong friends of El Paso. The love he had for his family was unwavering, for his friends unfettered, and for life unmotivated by anything other than zeal and tenacity. His loss will be deeply felt and his legacy will live on for years to come. He wished for no grief, but joy and gratitude. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Habitat for Humanity or Salvation Army Women's Service League of Hood County. Survivors: wife, Karen; son, Curry Nichols and wife, Kristin; daughter, Kelly Craven and husband, Cory; granddaughters, Hannah and Katie Nichols; brothers, Aubrey Allen and Wilton Clark Nichols and their families; and many other relatives and friends.
