I am very saddened to report that Ron Nelson, 67,
of Georgetown, TX passed away on Thursday,
October 28, 2010.
A memorable Mass was held on Monday,
November, 1, 2010 at the Holy Trinity Catholic
Church in Cornhill, TX and interment will be held
on February 4, 2011 at Arlington National Cemetery
in Washington, DC.
Ron served our country honorably for over 22 years
in the US Army retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in
1988. Ron was a Senior Army Aviator and was
awarded a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service
Medals, five Air Medals and an Army
Commendation Medal.
I was fortunate to have known Ron for many of the
years he was in the Army. Ron and I attended the
Fixed Wing Flight Training class 69-8 together,
beginning at Ft. Stewart, GA, and finishing up at
Ft. Rucker in June of 1969. We then attended the
Rotary Wing Qualification Course at Rucker, Cobra
School at Hunter AAF, and then the Aviation
Maintenance Officer Course at Ft. Eustis before
going to Viet Nam in the Spring of 1970. While in
Viet Nam, Ron served with the 79th Transportation
Maintenance Company in Qui Nhon.
After retiring, Ron worked as a Project Manager at
the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern
California for 17 years.
Ron married Sandra Ann Walsh in July of 1968 in
Grand Rapids, MI. They traveled around the world
during his army career. Ron was an avid model
train collector and assembler. He enjoyed golfing
with his friends and fishing with his Son and
Grandsons. Ron loved his Harley Davidson and
was a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders for
the past three years.
In addition to his loving wife of over 40 years,
he leaves his Daughter Stephanie Harshman and
family, his Daughter Allyson Nelson and her
family, both of Redmond, WA, and his Son
Jonathan and his family of Sacramento, CA and
many other relatives and friends.
