More detail on this person: Commander Richard Or Don Nichols, 53 Richard Nichols Evening Tribune (San Diego, CA) - Tuesday, November 11, 1986 A Mass for retired Navy Cmdr. Richard "Don" Nichols, 53, of El Cajon, will be said at 7 tonight in Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in El Cajon. Cremation and inurnment were planned by the Neptune Society. Burial will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. He died Sunday in a hospital. Cmdr. Nichols, a native of Kansas City, Kan., was a resident of the county for 28 years and served in the Navy 28 years, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Air Medal. After retiring from the Navy in 1979, he worked for Sandaire and as a senior safety engineer for General Dynamics. Survivors include his wife, Lois; two sons, Louis, of San Diego, and Richard, of Redondo Beach; and a brother, Ron, of Escondido. The family suggested donations to the American Lung Association.
