Dean was born in Ava, MO the son of Henry L. and Martha House Nichols. Dean had an extensive military career beginning at the rank of private and ending as a Colonial spanning more than 33 years. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and Viet Nam Veterans Association in Crossville, TN. Dean is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Leslie Linette (Timothy David) Alvarez of Fort Myers; three step sons, Lt. Col. Joseph Richard (Jamie) Costello, John Robert Costello and James Ronald (Loni) Costello; two brothers, Dale and Don Nichols both of California and 21 grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, on Friday, June 11th, from 10-11 A.M. Funeral service will begin on Friday at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment and military honors will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery on Friday at 1:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer's Resource Center, Inc., 9470 HealthPark Cir., Fort Myers, FL 33908 in memory of Dean
