More detail on this person: NFA Class of 1948 Memorial Page Arthur A Nelbach Nelbach, Arthur - I have just learned that Art Nelbach, star NFA track athlete in the late 1940's, passed away in January 1997 as the result of an accident outside of his home in Vails Gate, NY. He attended Lafayette College and was a USMC helicopter pilot in Viet Nam. Posted by Domenick Colotti 48 I was Art's best man at his second wedding. He was cutting down a tree on his property, when it fell on him and hit him on his head. He was always the reckless one from when we were together at NFA to when he was a Marine pilot. Once, when stationed in California, (probably El Toro), he decided to drop in on his folks by landing at Stewart. In doing so, he flew over Beacon across the Hudson, upside down, probably 500 to 1000 feet up over Broadway. Great guy. We all miss him. His father used to own the Bear Shop on Broadway and he was always borrowing cars without his Dad knowing it. Once, in Algebra class, we saw squirts of water flying by. It was Art, using one of his Dad's grease guns. The teacher never saw it, although after class, he must have wondered where all the water on the floor came from. Another time, he was snow blowing ice off of Winona Lake and the riding blower went through the ice and he was able to get back to shore. Days later, he went out on a boat and dove down and retrieved the blower. Actually, his home was in Cornwall, about a mile from the Vail's Gate intersection. Born Aug. 5, 1930 - Died Jan. 14, 19idn97
