More detail on this person: Robert "Bob" Nisson passed away peacefully in his home with his wife, Elaine, by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on May 24, 2018. Bob was born on Dec. 2, 1948, in Healdsburg, Calif., to George and Dorothy Nisson. In 1960, the family moved to Alaska. He was a 1967 graduate of West High School and joined the U.S. Army soon after. Warrant Officer Nisson flew Chinook Helicopters during the Vietnam War with the 178th Assault Support Helicopter Company. He finished his Army service at Fort Richardson and flew for Era Helicopters briefly before starting a 43 year career at Alaska Airlines Cargo. Over 30 of those years he worked in Prudhoe Bay. In 1993, Bob met the love of his life, Elaine. On July 25, 1999, Bob accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Two months later, Bob and Elaine were married. Bob instantly gained a family and loved them dearly. Bob was a self-taught expert of many different skills and subjects to include plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, cooking, finance and politics. He was always reading and researching about anything and everything. Because of his kindness and willingness to help others, Bob had many lifelong friends. He spent many mornings at Jitters with the guys. Bob loved his church and he and Elaine's Bible study small group. He loved his children and grandchildren, but his greatest love was Elaine. Among his many passions were Formula 1 Racing, traveling, skiing and entertaining. Bob was famous for his sourdough bread. He'd bake four loaves at a time and give three away. Bob is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Dana (Kyle Patterson) and Bill Grady; siblings, George (Marie) Nisson and LeeAnn (Richard) Reeder; grandchildren, Kari (Kenneth) Lebo, Chase and Emma Patterson, Brandon and Logan Grady; nephews, Sean Middleton and Matthew Nisson; nieces, Patricia Wallace and Debbie Brassard; and "adopted siblings," Bill Satterberg Jr. and Julie Satterberg-Clemons. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
